0004060: Using quercus' curl module, CURLOPT_SSL_VERIFYPEER false does not work

Description

Code is:
    $ch = curl_init();
    curl_setopt ($ch, CURLOPT_URL, $url);
    curl_setopt ($ch, CURLOPT_SSL_VERIFYPEER, FALSE);
    curl_setopt ($ch, CURLOPT_SSL_VERIFYHOST, 2);
...
but the result is
sun.security.provider.certpath.SunCertPathBuilderException: unable to find valid certification path to requested target

If the ability to not verify an SSL cert available?
