Using the com.caucho.el.ELParser class directly fails to parse static methods properly. The problem seems to be in this block of code.

protected ELParser create(String string)
{
  ELParser parser = new ELParser(string);

  parser.copy(this);

  return parser;
}

protected void copy(ELParser parser)
{
  parser._staticFunctionMap = _staticFunctionMap;
}

The line:

parser.copy(this)

should read

copy(parser)

This would make com.caucho.el.ELParser consistent with the behavior in com.caucho.el.JspELParser, which works properly.
